Developing film = Automatic blog post

kapahulu ave

My commute to work is pretty tranquil. So much so I decided to take a photo. The weather (up until late) has been beautiful-- perfect breeze and coolness while still being incredibly sunny. I can't even explain really how happy I feel when I ride down this particular stretch of Kapahulu. Sometimes nature is just really awesome.

I saw Matt and Kim with Dan and it was a pretty amazing show! I really love Aloha Tower-- it's a pretty surreal venue. Unlike the Cat Power show, this one was really hot and muggy. Probably because of all the kids dancing. I punched a guy in the face! T'was a good night!

Kaz moved to Japan so SRSS has a new guitarist. Their last show was on the 29th. Still torn that he's back in Kyoto. I definitely need to make a trip out there soon.

And then here are some not-film photos of food. Takoyaki and Unagi+Ikura Chirashi-don.

These are my favorite chocolates. Before, the ones that are green tea latte cream flavored were pancake flavored. I miss them. The rest are delicious, though!

These were tarts that were on sale at Nijiya. They were actually pretty good! I really liked the caramel almond flavored. The yuzu one was okay.

Then I went shopping at Safeway and discovered that they sell sourdough bread bowls. So I made myself manhattan clam chowder and a salad for a late night dinner. I didn't know what to do with all the bread I took out (for the soup), but discovered that the chinese actually deep fry bread and eat it for breakfast! Next time!

holy pic spam update

So I've been really preoccupied with school and work and have been neglecting the food aspect of this blog. I think apart of it, too, is that I've been waging a pretty serious food photo war and there is just too much mediocrity to upload. So here are some of my favorites over the past few weeks.

I love steak salad. Even more when feta cheese is involved.

Juvana and I get lunch almost every Monday and Wednesday. Govinda's is one of our favorite spots. Cauliflower curry.

Joe and I went to Kaka'ako for lunch/coffee/study sesh. We ate at Kua'aina Burgers where I got my favorite avocado burger, then stopped by Mocha Java for lunch.

Then Joe got trapped in a space-age massage chair that had a "zero gravity" setting.

Some days I make myself a fancy breakfast. Homemade yogurt! Really upset that mom ran out of bacteria to culture anymore. Need to find a place here in Hawaii that sells it! Tea press = divine.

Another fancy brunch!

(and I saw Cat Power! with Fred. It was sweet.)

I think that's more than enough for now.

I've been listening to way too much American Analog Set. This song does it for me.

Yesterday was Valentine's Day. It was pretty weird serving couples late night coffee all night. Also pretty depressing since most were dressed up, coming in after their fancy dinners. To make things a bit worse, my coworker was brooding, telling me he was going to probably die alone and never meet anyone. I guess he really wants to get married and time is "running out."

But all in all I had a pretty awesome day. I didn't pass out in any of my classes. Juvana gave me a cookie (which, I guess, is less gay than what I've said to her lately-- "What can I say, I have a thing for cute white boys!" "I'm not a cute white boy. :("). Dan surprised me at work with shrimp flavored stuff, then beat me in Mario Kart.

I've been reading a lot of E.E. Cummings as it's probably right around that time and season. This is my favorite poem at the moment.

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.

I am terrible and conclusions so I'll end with this: I really can't wait for spring break. Hibernation, here I come!

i feel strange.

So uh, trip might be postponed till early June. Why? Because I have to get my wisdoms removed... and it's costing me an arm and a leg. Will have to wait for my tax return (but because I'm filing on my own [yeah I do my own taxes] I won't get the money until mid-March or so, maybe later, the internet says April, so we'll see). It's okay. This is going to be great. If anything, it means that a) I can really actually plan a vacation versus a one week stint on the big dark continent, b) I won't have to worry about winter clothes, which I really didn't want to have to buy.

But still, really bummed about the whole thing. I'm still thinking about taking spring break off and going to a neighbor island. I need a break. Or something...

I've been listening to a lot of noise/math rock lately. I feel so unsettled and for some reason it's soothing. I'm pretty sure I'm completely losing my mind, 'cause this video in particular makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

And uh, just for fun, here's a picture of my cat. Being ridiculous.

The strangest thing happened today. I was feeling really sick and awful and my cat suddenly ran over and so I picked him up and laid with him for a bit, then he got up and sat on my head and started pawing my head. It was like a cranium massage! I've never felt more soothed. Animals are amazing. Regardless, I felt better instantly. I'm glad he's alive and better to make me feel better! Yay!

(re-reading that made me aware of how crazy I am beginning to sound.)

Oh, and hi new visitors. I'm sorry there isn't much here to read... but hey! I welcome you. Or something. xoxoxox!!
