reminiscing summer

It's the middle of September and I just want to go back to eating shave ice and drinking bubble tea and laying around reading what I want when I want. Bon dances, hiking, passing out on the beach for hours-- I miss everything! Except that this weather is still lingering-- it needs to go. I don't know if I'll be able to survive under this kind of humidity for much longer.

But back to reality. It's week four of the fall semester and I'm overwhelmed with books. We've finished roughly two per class (that's six total) and I'm getting confused with characters and plot lines. Everything is blurring together and I'm having trouble keeping up. So far, Whitman is probably my favorite author I've read this semester. But we're moving on to Jack London and his short stories are great. Glad that it isn't like Spring 2011 where I was stuck reading Medieval lyrical poetry day in and day out.

I went shopping at Revolution Books today to pick up the rest of my reading for the semester. What's-her-face and I watched news clips on Al Jazeera while she told me that Libya and Egypt are in dire need of communism. Which turned into a ploy to invite me to join the communist party. Nonetheless, the books are surprisingly cheap here. I bought roughly 16 books for only $100. You have no idea how happy I am!

I'd post photos of the food I've been eating but... well... they're really embarrassing. 75% of the photos are loco mocos, the other 25% is just poor quality photos anyway.

it's still august!

I've been having a good week! The work load has become intense and I'm constantly doing homework. Between classes, during classes, while eating, while bathing, while riding my bike (only once! regretted it immediately), not to mention work at Starbucks, too. I feel like there isn't enough time in the day and yet I somehow get it all done. The only exception being my laundry; I've been neglecting that completely.

I have trouble studying at home unless I have a ton of background noise. It's pretty much the reason I opted to sign up for Hulu Plus. It's the first month free with a .edu email address, and the selection of films and TV shows are undeniable. It's cheaper than Netflix, too. Finally got around to watching 400 Blows and I really liked it! Never watched a French New Wave film before and kind of excited since Hulu hosts the Criterion collection. I have an assortment of titles to choose from!

Anyway I only wrote this to get away from reading more but I guess I'll get back to it. 157 pages down, 173 more to go.

oh hello 2011

Sixteen days into the new year and I can honestly say it's going to be the best yet. So far so good. This entire post is Mercury Bar related, so while it may appear that I live there (okay let's be honest, I kind of do), this isn't all I've been up to. It's just all I've photographed.

Before the new year Chaz finally made an appearance outside of Mychal's house and joined Juvana, Matt, and I for a Deadbeats show. They're such a cute family.

Then I went to the Mercury Christmas party in a dress and heels! The funny thing about this is that I was actually going to wear my usual jeans and a tshirt when I saw Tracy Chan's facebook status about looking snazzy. Threw on a dress I bought four years ago and have never worn. Felt pretty festive!

Christmas Party

I wish I could find a photo of Juvana and I during our trivia question. "Who is gayer--" "ARISA." God damn. So quick witted. I love that girl.

Then there was the NYE Party. Normally for New Years I hang out with my mom. She almost always has tickets to some touristy event and doesn't want to go it alone, so she usually makes me go with her. I'm fine with this because I don't really get the whole hype around getting fucked up and partying, but this year my mom wanted to check out the Cecilio and Kapono show and it wasn't really my idea of an ideal way to bring in the new year. Luckily I was able to get out of that event at around 930p and made my way to Mercury (Jesus it's like I live there) for their NYE Event. I really wanted to go because a) I've missed like a million wizard sticks events and I want to be a wizard so bad! and b) I really couldn't think of too many other places I would have rather had been at.

Max and Sarah in white trash outfits with their wizard sticks. Glenn's is in the back on the counter. Next to the Guy Fawkes mask is a ticket from the City and County of Honolulu. I guess Drew is going to be in court come February.

Then there was this past Friday. Sometime earlier this week Andrew (the owner of Merc) sent me a text if I was going to stop by on Friday. "What's going on?" "Black Lipps are playing." Initially, I thought that it was a hoax-- that the misspelling was intentional and it was some cover band. But no, it was just a type-o, and if it wasn't for Juvana asking me if I was going I probably would have missed out on this show.

Maybe when I develop the roll in my camera I'll have better photos.

Between all this bar madness I've been at home or working. Semester just started back up and I've been swamped with reading. Things to look forward to: No class tomorrow (yay!), 7yr anniversary party, Packers vs Bears game next Sunday, Jon's going away party, lots of ramen in between. Sixteen glorious days so far; It almost feels like a dream.

IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES

News!!!

1) I'm going back to typing properly and blah blah. Not so much grammatically. But who gives a fuck!

2) I'm buying a new bike! I decided I actually want THIS bike (the Trek Atwood!) but alas, they do not have it in Hawaii. I tried contacting the bike shop that stocks Trek bikes but they haven't returned my emails or calls. I'm hopeful!

3) My original SF trip might turn into a Seattle trip, mostly because I don't know anyone in San Francisco, especially blood related, and because the farther up I go the more people I know! It's my first time on the mainland so I'm sooooo stoked! If enough people can't spend time with me I might go up to Vancouver for a day. Either way, this should be fun!

4) Spring semester starts next week. Money is on its way. I feel like the beginning of this year has been filled with a lot of great fortune and great friends. I'm really looking forward to the next few months. I feel like plans are finally rolling along and I'm beginning to feel satisfied with where I am in life.

Want to know the best part of everything? My transportation expense is going to drop dramatically because I can finally get a UPass again! MY LIFE!

p.s. I'm making seafood paella this week for my mom. Photos to come!

i really like this song! it's so chill.

anyway. school is getting superhyperintense! i have two 1k word papers due in the coming weeks and mid terms all over the place. i want to be able to go out and have fun but i guess it'll have to wait. at least i'll save money this way!

speaking of. i started actually cooking again. i've been too tired and too busy to do it lately. plus the fact that i've been eating out almost every day. plus, getting home at around 1230 leaves me with little energy and time to cook. i've gotten really good at making that carbonara stuff. perfected the flavoring! but again, my work schedule makes it hard to do grocery shopping. thank god safeway on kapahulu is opened so late. now all i need is a new bike with a basket thing so i can carry home food easier.

maybe something like this!!

i don't know why but i'm actually scared of going to a bike shop by myself. i gotta get over it. i gotta get used to doing things alone!
